In 2000, biotechnology company MUbio Products BV was founded as a spin-off company of the department of molecular cell biology of the University of Maastricht (UM), The Netherlands. The company is active in the development, production and sales of antibodies for routine diagnostic and research. Also, the company started developing protein targets for diagnostic products and vaccines in 2003.

MUbio was founded by Prof. Dr. Frans Ramaekers and Dr. Rene Vleugels. With the help of investments by the UM, the LIOF and the Belgian Investment company LRM, the company performs important work for both scientific research, as well as health care applications. Also, the company makes its own investments through financial means (stemming from antibody sales) and human effort, with the help of qualified and highly trained employees. Cells are developed in the company’s own lab facilities, which is accommodated in the BioPartner Center in Maastricht.

The company disposes over an extensive portfolio of antibodies, which are sent to customers all over the world through a network of partners and distributors.  Also, high aims are set regarding two development pathways : the development of new diagnostic products and immunotherapy (vaccines) for the detection of and battle against lung cancer and Cytmegalovirus (CMV) infection.

The latter takes place in cooperation with the Dutch Vaccine Institute, which is responsible for the national vaccination program for children in the Netherlands. Prognoses of World Health Organization (WHO) indicate that there is going to be an increase need for products as created by MUbio. 

Because of the fact that the company operates within a growing market, scientific research and economic success in favor of general social benefit are combined.
